Ukiyo-e Search has launched a powerful tool for discovering Japanese woodblock prints, allowing users to search a collection of 223,891 prints through image recognition. The platform enables users to upload photos of existing prints to find similar works across multiple collections, creating an unprecedented resource for art researchers and enthusiasts.

Currently in beta, the search engine promises enhanced features including better data quality, hundreds of thousands of additional images, and improved search capabilities. Users can sign up for notifications about upcoming feature releases. The tool currently supports searching by both image upload and direct image URL input.

The database spans multiple historical periods of Japanese woodblock printing, from early ukiyo-e artists of the 1700s through modern and contemporary movements. The collection includes works by famous artists like Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige, with detailed cataloging of prints by era and artist. The platform organizes prints chronologically from the birth of full-color printing in the 1740s through the Shin Hanga and Sosaku Hanga movements of the early 20th century.
