The Interop Project, a cross-browser initiative involving Apple, Google, Igalia, Microsoft, and Mozilla, has launched Interop 2026 to improve web compatibility. The group selected 20 focus areas with 33 proposals based on developer feedback and surveys, continuing their mission to reduce cross-browser inconsistencies that waste developer hours.

Interop 2026 introduces cutting-edge features like Cross-document View Transitions, Scroll-driven animations, WebTransport, CSS container style queries, and JavaScript Promise Integration for Wasm. These additions promise more powerful web capabilities without heavy JavaScript workarounds, addressing key pain points in modern web development across all participating browsers.

The initiative also focuses on improving reliability of existing features like fetch, Navigation API, and CSS positioning. With the overall Interop score rising from 25 to 95 in the previous cycle, this year's work continues reducing frustrating inconsistencies, ultimately saving developers countless hours previously lost to debugging browser differences.
