Apple's WebKit team has unveiled its browser interoperability priorities for 2026, building on the progress made through the Interop 2025 initiative. The company joined forces with Google, Microsoft, Mozilla, and others to identify 20 focus areas that will shape web development standards in the coming year.

The 2026 objectives include five carryover items from 2025, such as Advanced attr() functions, Container Style Queries, and Scroll-driven Animations. The group also aims to improve CSS features like contrast-color() and shape(), along with platform APIs including the Navigation API and WebTransport. These enhancements target critical areas where cross-browser inconsistencies have historically frustrated developers.

Apple emphasized its commitment to making these features work consistently across all browsers, from design systems to video streaming platforms. The WebKit team's announcement follows last week's Interop 2025 results, which showed Safari making significant gains in test pass rates. By focusing on these specific technical areas, the browser interoperability group hopes to provide developers with a more reliable foundation for building web applications that work seamlessly across different browser engines.
