Greenvolt Group has started construction of a 600 MW/2.4 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Siedlce, Poland, with commercial operations targeted for the end of 2027. BYD Energy Storage will supply the battery technology, using 210 battery containers and 105 transformer containers. P&Q will connect the BESS to the transmission network operated by Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE) at 400 kV, including a new substation and cable links.

The facility will charge during high renewable generation and discharge when demand rises. Greenvolt expects the project to improve system flexibility and support wind and solar integration. Greenvolt already operates a 200 MW/800 MWh project at Turośń Kościelna, operational since July 2026, and another 200 MW/800 MWh project at Ełk scheduled for Q4 2026.

Once all three projects are operating, Greenvolt will have 1 GW of battery power and 4 GWh of storage in Poland, giving it a larger role in providing flexibility as Poland expands variable renewable generation.
