Google has won a bankruptcy auction for Spirit Airlines' emails, calendar info, chats, documents, spreadsheets and other business data, according to a court filing. It will pay $10 million for the information and use it to improve its products and AI models.

The deal covers about 100 million emails and 500 million Microsoft Teams chats, but does not include passenger profiles or frequent‑flyer data. The data is deidentified, meaning it will not be linked to individual users and the buyer agrees not to re‑identify them.

A Google spokesperson said the dataset will be rigorously scrubbed of any personally identifiable information by a third party before receipt. Google plans to use the material for large‑language‑model training, as well as marketing, HR, project management, finance, audits and presentations.

A federal judge must approve the deal. If it fails, AI‑powered hiring platform Mercor was the next‑highest bidder at $7.5 million. The auction reflects the value of corporate communication data for AI development.
