Canada will purchase early warning aircraft from Saab instead of Boeing, marking a significant pivot toward non-US defense suppliers. Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the decision to acquire the GlobalEye system, which is built on the Bombardier Global 6500 platform. Boeing's E-7 Wedgetail had been in contention but faced delays and cost overruns that likely influenced the choice.

The GlobalEye features advanced sensors and mission systems designed for Arctic surveillance across Canada's 4.4 million square kilometers of territory. Carney emphasized that this capability will help detect and deter threats in the increasingly important northern region.
