Google introduces Beyond Zero, a new security paradigm for the AI era that moves trust decisions from the application level to individual actions on resources. By performing per‑resource access checks for humans and AI agents at machine speed, the model shrinks the trust boundary to the exact action being taken, enabling a self‑defending enterprise.

Beyond Zero combines granular static policies with dynamic, AI‑driven reasoning, automatically enriches context (user, intent, data, risk), and can trigger autonomous investigations, challenges, or containments. It builds on the Beyond Corp model launched in 2014, extending zero‑trust to the authentication and authorization layers for both human and machine actors.

The shift is driven by agents generating exponential access volumes—AI agents operate at roughly 10 times the rate of humans—along with exploding data velocity and sophisticated threats that weaponize LLMs. Legacy, human‑speed controls cannot keep pace with tens of millions of concurrent machine‑driven actions per second.

Beyond Zero addresses this by shifting the trust boundary to the specific action on a piece of data, augmenting identity with a real‑time “brain” that evaluates intent and context.
