An armed man was arrested Sunday after forcing his way through a crowd toward Dr. Amy Acton, the Democratic nominee for Ohio governor, during a speech at the Mahoning County Democratic Party tent at a fair in Canfield. Sheriff Jerry Greene and two witnesses reported the man pushed through the crowd, knocking over two elderly audience members, though he did not draw his weapons. Dr. Acton was not injured. Two Ohio State Highway Patrol officers, part of her security detail, detained and handcuffed the man.

He was found carrying two pistols and a Taser shaped like brass knuckles. The man, identified as 38-year-old Patrick Havas of Canfield, was booked into county jail on one charge of disorderly conduct and two counts of misdemeanor assault. Ohio law allows concealed carry without a permit.

Victims were assessed and chose not to seek further treatment. The Ohio State Highway Patrol and Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office are investigating. Mr. Havas did not respond to a request for comment. A campaign representative said an armed person "lunged at" Dr. Acton, with "multiple people" injured. Dr. Acton and her husband, Eric, thanked law enforcement and prayed for the injured.

Sheriff Greene, who endorsed Republican opponent Vivek Ramaswamy, said the man likely wanted to ask questions but was "pretty aggressive." Witnesses John Boccieri and Mike Ray reported hearing the man scream "Dr. Acton, Dr. Acton" after being detained. Gov. Mike DeWine called the incident unacceptable, stating Dr. Acton is ok and condemning violence at public events.

Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign also condemned the act, saying candidates should meet voters without fear of threats. Hundreds continued enjoying the fair as attendees sought confirmation of the incident from social media and news.
