Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald apologized to Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton on Wednesday after a clip from an interview resurfaced in which Macdonald discussed a 2024 dispute between the teams. Macdonald called the incident a "lesson learned" and said the comments were not intended for public consumption.

"It's something that I didn't intend for public use," Macdonald said. "But I felt like it was the most appropriate thing to reach out to Sean and really just apologize to him for having that end up be public where it wasn't meant to."

Payton confirmed that Macdonald called him Tuesday night and said they are "good." The dispute stemmed from Payton's 2024 accusation that Seattle cheated before their season opener. Macdonald's comments were made during an interview with "In Depth With Graham Bensinger" that was published last week on YouTube.

Macdonald acknowledged he needs to be more careful. "I've got to be better in that moment," he said. "I fell short in that moment." The Seahawks are scheduled to play at Denver in Week 6.
