Sarkisian: Mishandled ESPN Interview, Manning Owns Mistake

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian says he should have better handled his postgame interview with ESPN reporter Holly Rowe after the win over Ohio State and acknowledged how the testy exchange led to fake videos and an apology from quarterback Arch Manning.

"We could have handled that situation better with a little bit more patience," Sarkisian said Thursday. "But that obviously led to the situation with Arch." Sarkisian noted his interviews were delayed and he wanted to join his team's celebration.

On Monday, Manning joked about an AI-generated video showing Sarkisian slapping Rowe, calling it "hilarious." He apologized Tuesday, writing: "I know my words and actions were hurtful to a lot of people." Rowe accepted his apology.

"In no way do we condone domestic violence or violence against women," Sarkisian said, adding Manning did not intend malice. "At his core, he knows what he believes in and what he stands for."

Manning's misstep drew widespread criticism. Sarkisian said with hindsight he would have shown more patience and waited for the interview.
