Green Bay Packers receiver Jayden Reed will be placed on injured reserve, and his season is over due to a neck injury sustained in Week 2, coach Matt LaFleur confirmed Wednesday. LaFleur said Reed will undergo surgery, but it is not expected to be career-ending. "From my understanding no, but he will be out a significant amount of time," LaFleur said.

Reed was carted off the field after the second play from scrimmage against the New York Jets on Sept. 20. He was placed on a backboard and had his helmet strapped down. He had movement in his extremities but stayed in New Jersey that night. "Any time you go through a situation like that, it's a pretty scary deal," LaFleur said.

It marks the second straight year Reed has gone on IR early in the season. Last year, he broke his collarbone in Week 2 and returned in Week 14. The Packers signed Reed to a three-year, $50.25 million contract extension in April. The 2023 second-round pick had four catches for 24 yards at the time of his injury. He has 142 catches for 1,881 yards and 18 total touchdowns in his career.

The Packers streamlined their receiver room to feature Christian Watson, Matthew Golden, and Reed. Watson leads the team with 17 catches for 284 yards and four touchdowns.
