New York Jets rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. was placed on injured reserve Saturday with a sprained ankle, the team announced. Cooper, one of the Jets' three first-round picks, played only four snaps in the Week 1 win over the Tennessee Titans before leaving the game.

Cooper, drafted 30th overall out of Indiana, made an immediate impact on the opening possession, catching a short pass and breaking several tackles for a 30-yard play that set up a touchdown. He is eligible to return Oct. 18 against the New England Patriots after his four-week IR stint.

The Jets now have two receivers on injured reserve — Cooper and Tim Patrick — leaving only four on the active roster for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers at MetLife Stadium. Beyond starters Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell, the Jets have Isaiah Williams and Arian Smith available. The team signed veterans Sterling Shepard and Tyler Johnson to the practice squad, though neither is expected to be elevated. The Jets may rely heavily on their five tight ends against Green Bay.
