Xbox has stepped in to publish Hideo Kojima's upcoming action-espionage game Physint after Sony unexpectedly dropped the project in June 2026. Kojima announced the partnership on X, stating he found in Xbox a partner with whom he shares a common vision for the future. Sony's gaming division cited careful consideration in stepping away from the collaboration but expressed interest in future work with Kojima Productions.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed the takeover shortly after Sony's announcement, highlighting Physint and another project, OD, as key collaborations. Kojima revealed he spent three months searching for a new partner after Sony's cancellation, emphasizing Physint's personal and professional importance. The deal extends beyond gaming, with plans for film and television collaborations.

Physint was first announced in early 2024 with fanfare, including a reveal by PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst that tied the game to Columbia Pictures, suggesting broader IP ambitions now in flux.
