Samsung promised seven years of OS and security updates through 2031.

However, refurbished pricing complicates the value proposition. Unlocked renewed units cost $350–$400+, while Samsung's Certified Re-Newed program starts at $519 with a new battery and one-year warranty. At these prices, the S24 competes with brand-new mid-range phones offering better battery life, newer camera hardware, and longer remaining support.

Battery condition is the biggest unknown with used units. The original 4,000mAh battery lasted 24.5 hours in testing, but degradation varies. Samsung's certified program eliminates this uncertainty, yet at $519 it's only $80 below the certified refurbished Galaxy S25 at $599.

Alternatives include the Google Pixel 10a at $499 with a 5,100mAh battery and seven years of updates, plus other early 2026 releases that may offer better value for most buyers spending $400–$500.
