Lucasfilm announced that Star Wars: A New Hope will be released on IMAX 70mm on February 19, 2027 for the first time ever, struck from a newly restored version of the original 1977 film rather than a digitally remastered cut. Later that year, Star Wars: Starfighter will debut on IMAX screens on May 28, 2027, exactly 50 years after the original film's premiere. The IMAX 70mm prints will be shown on 59 by 79 foot screens with John Williams' score in 12-channel surround sound.

Starfighter was reportedly shot digitally on Sony's IMAX-certified Cine Alta Venice 2 cameras and will need to be upscaled and digitally converted to IMAX 70mm, which can exceed 14K resolution.
