Customize Apple CarPlay Display: Settings, Apps & Widgets

Car Play is great as it comes, but a few personalization tweaks make it even more convenient. If your vehicle supports the feature, setting up Apple Car Play with a cable or wirelessly avoids phone mount clunkiness. Your navigation and media controls appear on the car's infotainment screen, and with Siri's overhaul in i OS 27, hands-free interaction feels reliable.

Car Play's interface uses bold text and large icons. By default, dark mode prevents blinding in dim environments. Switch to light mode via Settings > Appearance in Car Play, or select Automatic to toggle based on ambient light. In Settings > Wallpaper, choose from Apple-designed wallpapers; in Settings > Customize Icons, pick dark or clear Liquid Glass icons. Accessibility submenu allows text size adjustments.

Rearrange apps on the home screen via your i Phone: Settings > General > Car Play > select vehicle > Apps. Reorder with handles, remove unused apps (some defaults can't be removed, drag them down). Widgets, added in i OS 26, live on a separate page swiping right. Customize them in the same Car Play settings: tap Widgets, ensure Show Widgets is on, add or reorder widgets in stacks for quick access.
