Apple tests four smart‑glass designs ahead of 2027 launch

Apple is quietly testing four distinct frames for its smart glasses, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports. The lineup includes a large Wayfarer‑style rectangle, a slimmer rectangle reminiscent of Tim Cook’s personal lenses, a larger oval or circular frame, and a compact oval option. Color choices span black, ocean blue and light brown, giving the product an aesthetic palette.

Internally codenamed N50, the device aims to outpace Meta’s second‑generation Ray‑Ban collaboration by adding vertically oriented oval lenses edged with subtle indicator lights. Like its rival, it will capture photos and video, but Apple plans tighter iPhone integration—leveraging the ecosystem for editing, calls, notifications, music and Siri. A launch tease could arrive late 2026, with full sales slated for 2027.

By covering a range of shapes and hues, Apple hopes to appeal to both fashion‑forward users and early adopters seeking seamless AR experiences. The move signals the company’s intent to stake a claim in wearable AR before the market matures, positioning its glass as the default companion for iPhone owners rather than a niche accessory. Pricing remains hush‑hush, but analysts expect a premium tag.
