Apple has launched Apple Pay in India for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, with Mac support to follow. The delay stemmed from complex Indian financial regulations introduced in June 2022, including requirements for Aadhaar ID over Face ID and 24-hour notices for recurring payments. Initially available only via Visa and Mastercard credit cards issued by Axis Bank, Apple Pay will be accepted by millions of merchants including Bill Desk, Cashfree, and Juspay.

Jennifer Bailey, Apple's vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, stated: 'India is home to a dynamic and digitally savvy population that continues to embrace a cashless future while expecting the highest standards of security and privacy.' Eddy Cue first mentioned bringing Apple Pay to India in 2017, but launch required navigating strict data storage and authentication rules. The service supports contactless payments and digital wallets, marking a significant milestone for Apple in the world's second-largest smartphone market.
