Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid began their quest for a sixth wheelchair doubles title at the US Open with a commanding 6-3 6-1 victory in New York. The British top seeds defeated Frenchman Stephane Houdet and China's Zhenxu Ji, advancing to the semi-finals. They will next face Japan's Tokito Oda and Argentina's Gustavo Fernandez, the 2025 champions at Flushing Meadows.

Hewett, 28, and Reid, 34, have amassed 25 Grand Slam doubles titles as a pair and will start their singles campaigns on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Britain's Andy Lapthorne recorded a winning start in the quad wheelchair doubles alongside South African partner Leon Els, defeating Americans David Wagner and Andrew Bogdanov 7-6 (7-5) 6-1.

However, Greg Slade and Australian Heath Davidson were defeated 6-0 6-0 by the top seeds, Dutchman Niels Vink and Israel's Guy Sasson. Vink and Sasson have won all three Grand Slam tournaments so far in 2026, and the last six majors in total.
