EFL Cup: Reading 1-2 Brentford, VAR frustrates Keith Andrews

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews believes VAR is preventing referees from making decisions. His Bees progressed to the Carabao Cup fourth round with a 2-1 win at League One side Reading.

Reading defender Paudie O'Connor had a goal ruled out for a high boot, prompting boss Leam Richardson to call it "possibly in the top three [wrong] decisions that I've seen in my career."

With no VAR at this stage, Andrews said: "We need to let them ref the game and be human beings and make decisions... it's a real shame." His comments followed Pro Ref admitting an "error of judgement" for Erling Haaland's winner for Manchester City at Manchester United.

Andrews, whose side are seventh in the Premier League, said referees were no longer allowed to "make mistakes." On the Manchester derby error, he said it was "pretty alarming" Haaland's goal stood.
