Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison plans to sell up to $7.5bn worth of shares by the end of October 2026, offloading as many as 50mn shares through an orderly trading plan set up in late June. The announcement came in Oracle's latest quarterly filing.

Oracle reported higher revenue from its data centre business but saw its share price dip as investors warned margins were compressing due to its aggressive AI strategy. The Austin, Texas-based company declined to comment.

Ellison, 82, remains Oracle's largest individual shareholder with a 40 per cent stake and has pledged 346mn shares as collateral for personal loans. He is also backing his son David's $40bn bid for Warner Bros Discovery and financing research projects in Oxford and Los Angeles.

Ellison has been central to Oracle's AI push, appearing at the White House in early 2025 alongside Sam Altman and Masayoshi Son for the $500bn Stargate plan. Oracle later agreed to provide $300bn in capacity to Open AI, briefly making Ellison the world's richest person, surpassing Elon Musk. The company has also allocated a further $700mn for severance costs after laying off tens of thousands of workers.
