Blizzard officially announced Diablo 5 at BlizzCon 2026, confirming a Spring 2029 release window for the next mainline action RPG entry. The reveal occurred during the opening ceremony, coinciding with Diablo's 30th anniversary. Game director Joe Shely revealed the story picks up a century after Diablo 4, with Sanctuary already fallen and Diablo victorious.

This premise marks a departure from previous entries, tasking players with dealing with the aftermath rather than preventing the fall. Diablo 5 will be the first mainline title built around a post-apocalyptic Sanctuary from the start. A follow-up panel confirmed the Demon Hunter and Monk will return, alongside a new class, the Plague Knight.

While Blizzard has not detailed gameplay mechanics, the survival premise suggests a significant shift. Blizzard affirmed Diablo 4 will continue receiving support until the new release, including an Amazon class pack planned for 2027. Three years is a long runway before launch, though BlizzCon teasers typically indicate future updates will trickle out along the way.
