Jesus Luzardo pitched his first career shutout in 150 starts, striking out 12 and allowing just two hits over seven innings to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 1-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves. Luzardo retired the final two batters in the ninth after not walking a batter until that frame, throwing 109 pitches with 78 strikes in 1 hour, 51 minutes. Kyle Schwarber delivered the only run with a solo home run in the eighth inning off reliever Didier Fuentes, his MLB-leading 43rd homer of the season.

The win split the four-game series and cut the Braves' NL East lead to four games. Luzardo, the NL Pitcher of the Month for August, improved to 14-5 and has performed like a playoff ace since signing a $135 million, five-year contract in March. Braves starter Grant Holmes tossed six shutout innings, striking out six and allowing three hits, but left a runner on third in the seventh.

Phillies fans booed Ronald Acuña Jr. in all four of his plate appearances, who had homered the previous day but was stranded on base in the ninth after a flyout by Ozzie Albies.
