Lauren Coughlin became the first player in LPGA history to open a round with nine straight birdies, achieving the feat at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship on Saturday. Starting on the back nine at Pinnacle Country Club, she birdied holes 10 through 18, including a wedge shot to 3 feet on the par-5 18th for her ninth birdie. She closed with six straight pars for a career-best 61.

After a 2-over 73 in round one, she jumped 106 spots into a tie for 21st. The LPGA single-round record remains 59, set by Annika Sorenstam in 2001. Coughlin, a three-time LPGA Tour winner, recently played all five sessions for the U.S. at the Solheim Cup, going 3-1-1.

The former Virginia player turns 34 on Sunday.
