No. 1 Texas held off No. 14 Tennessee 20-17 in Knoxville on Saturday, with President Donald Trump in attendance for the Longhorns' first visit to Neyland Stadium. Colin Simmons tied the program record with five sacks as Texas dominated defensively with 10 sacks total. Raleek Brown rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead 4-yard score with 5:41 remaining.

Gianni Spetic added two field goals. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian praised the defense despite Simmons being flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after simulating using the restroom following a sack. Tennessee quarterback Faizon Brandon led a late 80-yard drive capped by a 30-yard TD pass to Mike Matthews with 1:22 left, but Jelani Mc Donald batted away Brandon's final pass in the end zone to seal the win.

Texas also surrendered a 57-yard punt return TD by Qua Moss in the third quarter that tied the game at 10. Arch Manning made his first appearance in Knoxville, throwing for 201 yards while being sacked six times and intercepted once. Tennessee coach Josh Heupel acknowledged shortcomings in execution but praised his team's effort.

The loss extended Tennessee's streak without a win over AP's No. 1 team since 1985.
