Apple introduced a new iPhone Handoff feature in iOS 27, allowing users to switch between two iPhones using the same phone number. T-Mobile and Deutsche Telekom were the first carriers to support the feature, with T-Mobile charging $5 per month in the U.S. and Deutsche Telekom charging €6.95 monthly for plans without existing multi-SIM functionality. Apple indicated that Verizon and EE would add support later this year.

However, AT&T remains noncommittal about adopting iPhone Handoff. A spokesperson for AT&T told CNET that the carrier sees "potential" in the capabilities but remains focused on "existing eSIM activation and transfer options." In other words, AT&T has no imminent plans to support the feature, though it stopped short of saying it will never offer it. The spokesperson emphasized delivering innovations that keep customers connected with confidence while highlighting current eSIM options. iOS 27 was released on September 14.
