OpenAI is removing text-based prompt rate limits for free and Go tier ChatGPT users starting next week. This change allows unlimited text conversations with the AI.

However, limits will still apply to other features, including file and image uploads, image generation, and voice mode. Free and Go accounts will now default to GPT-5.6 Luna, replacing GPT-5.5 Instant. A new "Think" button will allow GPT-5.6 Luna to take more time for answers, with unlimited use for text chats unless combined with other features.

Plus and Pro users will also see improvements, including an updated flagship model, GPT-5.6 Sol, optimized for conversations, offering more focused answers and adaptive detail. A new slider will allow these users to control the AI's "thought" level.

OpenAI stated this move is a step towards "more abundant intelligence," making advanced models more accessible and improving user experience. The company suggested this could be due to advancements in inference costs, potentially a breakthrough in AI efficiency.
