AI Clean Up in iOS 27: Remove Objects

Apple is adding new AI features in iOS 27, with Photos getting cool upgrades. The Clean Up tool, available since iOS 18, is now much better at removing objects thanks to Apple's new AI models. To use it, you need an iPhone 15 Pro or later and Apple Intelligence enabled.

In the Photos app, tap Edit, then Tools, and choose Clean Up. The Auto button lets you select processing type. Fast mode uses a smaller AI model for quicker edits, ideal for simple tasks like removing a trash can. High Quality mode uses more advanced AI for complex edits, like removing people from a selfie, but takes longer and uses more battery.

Clean Up may auto-recognize objects, but circling what you want to remove is more accurate. iOS 27 also introduces Extend and Reframe. Extend expands the photo's area by generating more context, useful for zooming out on a selfie. Reframe changes the perspective and angle, but results can be hit or miss, sometimes looking like AI slop. Improving your photography in the first place is better.
