General Motors first announced in 2023 that it was ditching CarPlay in all future EVs, subsequently issuing a series of justifications and even implying it was what Steve Jobs would have done. However, a notable exception has emerged. Engadget spotted that the 2027 Cadillac Lyriq configurator still lists CarPlay and Android Auto as standard features.

The Lyriq is Cadillac's first all-electric vehicle and is becoming one of the best luxury EVs available. A Cadillac representative told Car Buzz that the company is evolving its infotainment strategy based on customer feedback, acknowledging that customers weren't going to buy a luxury EV without CarPlay. For owners of other GM EVs without native support, a third-party workaround, the EV Play LT, is available for $199.99 with no subscription fees, delivering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionalities.

This development suggests GM may be rethinking its strategy to wean drivers off CarPlay, highlighting the feature's enduring importance in the luxury EV market.
