Apple is making just a few hundred iPhone Ultra units per day due to strict quality control standards, per a Nikkei Asia report. This slow ramp could make meeting market demand challenging. Apple added an extra trial run in August to ensure mass production readiness, which delayed commercial production by weeks.

The company is focusing on improving surface flatness and hinge performance yields. Normally, tens of thousands of units per day are needed to meet production goals. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman expects the foldable iPhone to launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models, with no massive delays anticipated.

Apple is set to announce the iPhone Ultra next Wednesday at its 'Surprise and shine' event, where AirPods 5, Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4, and iPhone 18 Pro are also rumored.
