Steve Bannon and Bernie Sanders Unite on AI Safety

Bernie Sanders and Steve Bannon are joining forces to call for greater AI guardrails at a "Pro-Human Assembly" in Washington. The event, organized by the Future of Life Institute, will feature speakers from across the political spectrum, including Marsha Blackburn, Greg Casar, and Chip Roy, urging lawmakers to address AI's effects. Sanders criticized Big Tech for losing control of the technology, while Bannon has mobilized his populist audience against the industry and President Donald Trump's pro-AI agenda.

The gathering follows calls from OpenAI, xAI, and Anthropic bosses to slow rapid AI development. An NBC poll found roughly two-thirds of Americans see AI as a high risk. While the Trump administration curtails state regulations and promotes data centre construction, bipartisan support is growing for measures to curb AI deployment, including bans on data centre construction and greater oversight of new AI models.
