Honeywell International Inc. has secured a $300 million contract to provide engineering services and technology for Aliko Dangote’s planned refinery in Kenya. The project, expected to be completed in 2030, will mirror the design of Dangote’s existing refinery in Lagos, Nigeria, to reduce construction time by two years. This marks Honeywell’s latest collaboration with Dangote, bringing its total contracts with the company to approximately $900 million.

Rajesh Gattupalli, president of Honeywell Technologies UOP, noted that the shared design allows for streamlined procurement, likening it to needing “two of the same” instead of one. The Kenyan facility will include slight modifications, such as two additional process units to handle heavier crude oil. Dangote aims to expand total refining capacity to 2.1 million barrels per day across both sites.

Engineers India Ltd., which built the Lagos refinery, was also recently hired for the Kenya project. The Kenya plant is on track to be the fastest-built refinery in Dangote’s portfolio.
