Dangote Refinery IPO Opens in Two Weeks Aims $2 Billion

Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote announced an initial public offering for his refinery, Africa's largest, will open within two weeks. Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals FZE is looking to raise as much as $2 billion for its 700,000 barrels-per-day facility on the outskirts of Lagos. The proceeds will fund doubling the plant's capacity to 1.4 million barrels daily.

Ahead of the IPO, the refinery successfully raised $2.5 billion in an oversubscribed private placement. Dangote, Africa's richest person, also plans to replicate the plant in Lamu, Kenya, and recently pledged over $4 billion to boost spending on a fertilizer complex in Ethiopia. The meeting with President Duma Boko in Gaborone, Botswana focused on potential investments.
