The Australian dollar rose to a fresh 13-year high against its New Zealand peer, driven by a diverging interest-rate outlook by their central banks and a lift in metals prices. The Aussie gained as much as 0.4% to NZ$1.2332, its strongest against the kiwi since April 2013, after Reserve Bank of Australia Assistant Governor Sarah Hunter said the central bank might have to hike again to quell inflationary pressures. That followed Reserve Bank of New Zealand board member Prasanna Gai’s comments that the cash rate might already be in a neutral territory.
