Lando Norris gave McLaren their first sprint pole of the season at the Miami Grand Prix, beating Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli by 0.222 seconds. Oscar Piastri completed a strong McLaren showing in third, while Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Red Bull's Max Verstappen rounded out the top five. This marks Norris' first pole position since Las Vegas last year.

McLaren arrived with a major upgrade package—a strategy that turned Norris' season around when they did the same thing in Miami two years ago. Mercedes did not bring upgrades, and the 32C temperatures did not favour their car. Antonelli salvaged a good result by waiting until the final moments when track grip was highest, but George Russell ended up 0.4 seconds behind his teammate after running early.

This was the first F1 race in five weeks following the cancellations of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix, and the first race since new engine-management regulations were introduced. Ferrari and Red Bull also brought significant upgrades, with Hamilton seventh in the second Ferrari. Norris' pole suggests Mercedes may not dominate this season after all.
