Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has expressed continued faith in the video assistant referee system, despite a critical error in the Manchester derby. Referee's body Pro Ref issued a formal apology after VAR officials Matt Donohue and Blake Antrobus failed to spot City midfielder Enzo Fernandez in an offside position before Erling Haaland's winning goal. Carrick acknowledged the mistake was significant but emphasized his belief in the system, stating, "One-off things can happen." Referee's chief Howard Webb also expressed disappointment, admitting officials were too focused on a potential offside against Haaland.

Webb has since spoken with United to improve accountability. Carrick dismissed the apology's significance, noting the decision's huge impact on the game. Separately, Carrick defended central defender Leny Yoro after his performance in a 3-2 Carabao Cup defeat by Brighton.

The 20-year-old, who joined United from Lille for £52.2m, has faced criticism, but Carrick remains confident in his potential, refusing to make "knee-jerk decisions" based on one game.
