Since being announced as Germany's head coach in July, Jurgen Klopp has overseen a dramatic media shift. During his first news conference, Klopp admonished reporters to treat him fairly and refrain from attacking his family. Last Thursday, he called for "positive patriotism" amid political turmoil, stating he wants to reclaim the flag so that when someone waves it, people feel lucky rather than think 'what is wrong with you.' His remarks came following the success of the anti-immigration AfD party in state elections.

Klopp argued the national team represents a diverse Germany, citing players from migrant backgrounds. He emphasized sport's role in creating a "good atmosphere" and unity. Beyond the politics, Klopp is intent on transforming the national team.

He has attended countless league games and training facilities, visiting clubs like Dortmund and Frankfurt. His first squad selections featured a trial-and-error approach, naming two almost completely different groups for the international break. The first squad featured Joshua Kimmich, Kai Havertz, and Jamal Musiala, while the second included Florian Wirtz and Aleksandar Pavlovic.

Only back-up goalkeeper Finn Dahmen appeared in both squads. Klopp has given opportunities to overlooked players like Felix Keidel of SV Elversberg, alongside Mika Baur and Vitaly Janelt, proving his preference for undervalued talent over star names.
