Folarin Balogun's proposed £40m move to Everton collapsed after the 25-year-old striker changed his mind following a medical at Finch Farm. Monaco and Everton renegotiated terms before the transfer window closed at 23:00 BST, but Balogun ultimately withdrew. The United States international had emerged as a late target after Beto joined Fiorentina.

Everton also explored moves for Joshua Zirkzee and Tammy Abraham without success. On deadline day, Jack Grealish joined Everton on a season-long loan from Manchester City, praising the club's welcome. Grealish scored twice and provided six assists in 20 appearances during his previous spell. Everton also signed Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Lyon and arranged Nathan Patterson's permanent move to Torino.
