Jose Mourinho and Diego Simeone renew a rivalry not seen for more than a decade when Atletico Madrid host Real Madrid in the Madrid derby at Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday. The two managers have not faced each other since 2014, when Mourinho was at Chelsea and Atletico knocked the English side out of the Champions League. Their previous Madrid derby came in 2011, with Mourinho's Real winning 4-1 at the Vicante Calderon.

"This is a derby," Mourinho said. "Derbies are always something more special because of the history, the culture of the games and the passion of the fans." But he added: "But obviously three points is most important thing."

Real Madrid go into the match second in La Liga with 15 points from six games, level with Real Betis, while Atletico sit fourth on 13 points. Barcelona lead the table on 21 points. Both teams enter the derby on the back of victories - Real edged past Elche 3-2 with a 91st-minute winner, while Atletico responded to defeats by Athletic Club and Liverpool with wins over Real Sociedad and Osasuna.

The derby carries particular significance because of Real's recent difficulties at the Metropolitano, where they have won only two of their past 11 away matches. Mourinho acknowledged his team can improve despite positive results, noting their ability to find late winners in three matches.
