Todd Monken declined to commit to Deshaun Watson as the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback following a 34-10 Week 1 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, but stressed that the team's offensive struggles weren't solely Watson's fault.

Watson completed 11 of 17 passes for 100 yards with an interception through the first three quarters, finishing with 16-of-22 for 205 yards, a touchdown, an interception, and 38 rushing yards. The Browns trailed 24-0 at halftime, matching their worst halftime shutout in 35 years. Cleveland managed only five first downs on six drives and went 0-for-4 on third down in the first half.

"I'd rather just talk about today, because I haven't had time to even look at the tape," Monken said. "He happens to be one of 53... we'll evaluate everything. But to just say that emotionally here at the end -- when we didn't play good enough and didn't coach well enough."

Monken emphasized that blaming Watson alone was "unfair," citing six accepted penalties on offense, including two delay-of-game infractions. Watson, who turns 31 on Monday, took five sacks and was playing his first regular-season game in 693 days after being named starter on Aug. 24 over Shedeur Sanders.
