The European Union has designated ChatGPT, Reddit, and Roblox as 'Very Large Online Platforms,' subjecting them to the Digital Services Act's most stringent regulations. These platforms crossed the threshold of at least 45 million average monthly users in the EU, triggering enhanced scrutiny and accountability requirements. Henna Virkkunen, the EC's executive vice-president for tech sovereignty, stated the new designations mean these services will face higher standards, particularly regarding illegal content, impacts on minors, and electoral processes.

The platforms must now share data with authorities, undergo annual independent audits, and allow researcher data access. With these additions, the EU now designates 28 services as very large online platforms or search engines under the DSA. Earlier this year, WhatsApp received the same designation alongside Facebook and Instagram.
