Potential first-round candidates beyond the top five include Cincinnati's Brendan Sorsby, Miami's Darian Mensah, USC's Jayden Maiava, Oklahoma's John Mateer, Ole Miss' Trinidad Chambliss, Ohio State's Julian Sayin, Indiana's Josh Hoover, Oklahoma State's Drew Mestemaker, Washington's Demond Williams Jr., and UCLA's Nico Iamaleava.

One veteran executive called the depth "crazy," citing factors like Moore returning to Oregon, Chambliss gaining an extra year via court order, and Sorsby transferring to Texas Tech. This weekend's showcase games feature Ohio State (Sayin) vs. Texas (Manning) and Oklahoma State (Mestemaker) hosting Oregon (Moore), with heavy scout attendance expected.

This is the third year of ESPN's poll and the earliest iteration. In early October 2024, Colorado's Shedeur Sanders led the voting, while Sellers topped the poll in late September 2024.
