The Miami Dolphins acquired quarterback Kyle McCord from the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round draft pick on Sunday. McCord becomes the backup to starting quarterback Malik Willis. The trade marks the first between Packers GM Brian Gutekunst and his former protege, Dolphins GM Jon-Eric Sullivan.

Miami previously traded Quinn Ewers to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the pick sent to Green Bay originated from that deal. The Dolphins released Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski and plan to re-sign Gronowski to the practice squad if he clears waivers. McCord joined the Packers in January after the 2025 season on the Eagles’ practice squad.

He started and played the full preseason finale vs. Arizona, throwing a 10-yard touchdown to Kisean Johnson and finishing with four touchdown passes and zero interceptions. Packers coach Matt La Fleur praised McCord’s poise and performance. McCord said he aimed to prove he could play at this level during preseason.

The Packers will now seek a third quarterback, likely from their practice squad.
