Xbox's New Limited Game Pass Tier

Microsoft is developing a new Game Pass tier called Triton that will exclusively feature first-party Xbox Game Studios games. Expected to launch as Duet with Netflix, this lower-priced subscription will reportedly include monthly playtime limitations. The tier appears designed to offer a more affordable entry point to Game Pass while potentially encouraging upgrades to higher tiers.

Code discovered by @redphx reveals the tier will implement time limits on game streaming and free gameplay, with different games potentially having different time restrictions. Users may have the option to pay to extend playtime. The limitations will apply to streaming time, game trials, and even Netflix streaming within the bundle.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma recently acknowledged that Game Pass has become too expensive, suggesting this tier may be part of a broader strategy to adjust pricing tiers. While standard Game Pass tiers currently remain unlimited, Microsoft appears to be exploring ways to balance cost with value in an increasingly competitive gaming subscription market.
