Microsoft has introduced a new "postgame recaps" feature for the Xbox App on Windows 11, currently in preview for Xbox Insiders. The functionality automatically generates a summary after significant gaming sessions, compiling highlights like Game Bar screenshots, video clips, and in-game achievements into a single, reviewable timeline. It also offers game recommendations upon launch.

Users can extensively customize the experience through Settings > App > Postgame recaps, including the ability to disable all recap types entirely. Opting out completely prevents the app from launching to the system tray automatically when a game starts, requiring manual opening. This level of control caters to users who prefer minimal overlay intrusion.

Microsoft states it has performed various optimizations to ensure this new system overlay consumes negligible memory and has little to no performance impact on gameplay. The feature represents a push to better capture and organize PC gaming moments within Microsoft's ecosystem ahead of its planned wide release
