Valve Gives Developers Real Steam Deck Frame Rate Data

Valve has rolled out frame rate reporting tools in the latest Steamworks beta, giving developers access to real-world performance data from Steam Deck users. The feature is currently limited to games with Steam Deck Verified status and pulls data from users who opted into reporting. Developers can now see a 30-day graph of average frame rates.

The move addresses a common pain point: players sometimes disagree with Valve's Steam Deck Verified ratings. Valve says this data helps developers "better understand the experiences of customers who disagree, especially in the context of a specific title or update." The company plans to expand the tool with frame rate variance information to show stability, and eventually cover Steam Deck Playable titles as well.

Valve also provides developers with other Deck Verified data gathered by surveying users who have spent more than 10 minutes in a game. These tools will presumably carry over to the upcoming Steam Machine and Steam Frame devices when they launch.
