Microsoft released the first firmware update for its RTX Spark-powered Surface Laptop Ultra on October 22, addressing extended reboot times, screen flickering, and unexpected restarts. The update, labeled "System Hardware Update 200.0.7.0," arrives in stages and includes unspecified bug fixes and performance improvements. Early reviews highlighted issues like a sluggish 57 ms black-to-white response time, ghosting, lack of local dimming, and a gray 0.61-nit black level, which firmware cannot fix.
Some users also report overheating under light workloads. Priced at $2,599, the Ultra is expected to receive firmware updates until 2032. Owners should check Windows Update or the Surface app and restart to complete the installation.
