Retro Games Ltd unveiled the Spectrum White Edition today, timed to the 44th anniversary of the original ZX Spectrum 48K launch on April 23, 1982. Developed with PLAION REPLAI, the console mirrors the classic rubber‑keyed machine in a pristine all‑white shell, fulfilling a long‑rumored fan myth of a white Spectrum that never reached market. It retails for £129.99.

The new unit reproduces the full‑size 48K chassis, complete with the iconic rubber keyboard and includes 48 pre‑loaded titles spanning platformers to shooters. HDMI output offers multiple display modes, while USB ports support modern controllers and custom content, and the hardware remains compatible with both 48K and 128K software libraries.

Inside the box sit a matching white microswitch joystick and a custom THEMICRODRIVE USB stick, plus the optional THEGAMEPAD (White) controller sold separately for £19.99. Retailing at £129.99 (£149.99 EU), the edition positions the Spectrum as both a collector’s piece and a functional retro gaming hub, cementing its legacy for a new generation.

Paul Andrews, Retro Games’ managing director, said the launch honors the Spectrum’s role in spawning bedroom coders and shaping modern game development. By pairing vintage authenticity with HDMI and USB conveniences, the White Edition bridges past and present, offering a ready‑to‑play experience without compromising the machine’s iconic feel.
