Remedy's Control Resonant Skips Generative AI Entirely

Remedy Entertainment has confirmed its upcoming third-person shooter Control Resonant, slated for release later this year, will not use any generative AI content. CEO Markus Mäki stated unequivocally during an earnings call that the game contains no AI-generated material, marking a firm stance in an industry increasingly exploring the technology.

This decision contrasts with broader industry trends. A recent survey revealed 81% of game developers use generative AI for brainstorming, though only 7% believe it positively impacts the industry. Mäki acknowledged internal curiosity at Remedy but emphasized the company is carefully evaluating tools for ethical alignment and tangible player value before adoption.

Other major publishers are moving differently. While Take-Two's CEO similarly ruled out GenAI for GTA VI, both Ubisoft and EA are actively integrating AI tools despite a concurrent DRAM shortage causing hardware affordability issues. Remedy's approach for Control Resonant represents a deliberate, player-focused exception rather than a permanent company-wide ban.
