Rambus announced its DDR5 9600 Client Memory Module Chipset, designed for high-performance modules in future AI PCs. This chipset includes the Gen 2 Client Clock Driver (CKD02), enabling memory operation up to 9600 MT/s. It also features a Power Management IC (PMIC5120) and an SPD Hub, providing a complete solution for CUDIMM, CQDIMM, and CSODIMM modules.

Agentic AI workloads demand significant increases in memory bandwidth and capacity. To meet these needs and overcome challenges like signal degradation at speeds beyond 6400 MT/s, the industry is adopting clocked memory modules. These modules incorporate an on-module client clock driver to condition the clock signal. Rambus's new chipset supports these clocked DDR5 modules operating from 8000 to 9600 MT/s, simplifying design for next-generation AI PCs, notebooks, and workstations.

The chipset's components ensure signal integrity, efficient power delivery, and system coordination at the module level. The Gen 2 CKD retimes and distributes the clock signal to DRAM devices, the PMIC5120 manages voltage levels, and the SPD Hub handles module identification and configuration. This move towards higher-speed, clocked memory is seen as essential for unlocking the potential of AI-driven client devices, impacting everything from productivity to gaming.
